How to memorize it, one ayah at a time

1. Listen firstPlay the ayah several times while you follow the Arabic with your eyes.
2. Repeat it aloudSay it again and again until it flows. Qaree counts every repetition for you.
3. Recite it from memoryLook away and recite. Qaree's recite mode listens and highlights the exact words you missed.
4. Join it and reviewRecite the new ayah together with the ones before it, and go over the surah again the next day.

Surah Ash-Shams: Arabic text, transliteration and translation

1. 91:1

   وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا

   Wash shamsi wa duhaa haa

   By the sun and its brightness

2. 91:2

   وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا

   Wal qamari izaa talaa haa

   and the moon as it follows it

3. 91:3

   وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا

   Wannahaari izaa jallaa haa

   and the day as it unveils it

4. 91:4

   وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا

   Wallaili izaa yaghshaa haa

   and the night as it conceals it!

5. 91:5

   وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا

   Wassamaaa'i wa maa banaahaa

   And by heaven and ˹the One˺ Who built it

6. 91:6

   وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا

   Wal ardi wa maa tahaahaa

   and the earth and ˹the One˺ Who spread it!

7. 91:7

   وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا

   Wa nafsinw wa maa sawwaahaa

   And by the soul and ˹the One˺ Who fashioned it

8. 91:8

   فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا

   Fa-alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa

   then with ˹the knowledge of˺ right and wrong inspired it!

9. 91:9

   قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا

   Qad aflaha man zakkaahaa

   Successful indeed is the one who purifies their soul

10. 91:10

    وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا

    Wa qad khaaba man dassaahaa

    and doomed is the one who corrupts it!

11. 91:11

    كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ

    Kazzabat Samoodu bi taghwaahaaa

    Thamûd rejected ˹the truth˺ out of arrogance

12. 91:12

    إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا

    Izim ba'asa ashqaahaa

    when the most wicked of them was roused ˹to kill the she-camel˺.

13. 91:13

    فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا

    Faqaala lahum Rasoolul laahi naaqatal laahi wa suqiyaahaa

    But the messenger of Allah warned them, “˹Do not disturb˺ Allah’s camel and her ˹turn to˺ drink!”

14. 91:14

    فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا

    Fakazzaboohu fa'aqaroohaa fadamdama 'alaihim Rabbuhum bizambihim fasaw waahaa

    Still they defied him and slaughtered her. So their Lord crushed them for their crime, levelling all to the ground.

15. 91:15

    وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا

    Wa laa yakhaafu'uqbaahaa

    He has no fear of consequences.
