Privacy Policy

Qaree (“we”, “us”) is a Quran memorization and reading app. We designed it to be private by default. This policy explains what we do and do not collect.

No account, no personal information

Qaree does not require you to create an account. We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.

Your progress stays on your device

Your memorization and reading progress, review schedule, streaks, statistics, and settings are stored only on your device. We do not upload or store this data on our servers. You can export it yourself, or erase it at any time from Settings → Reset all progress (or by deleting the app).

Recitation is processed on your device

Recite mode, page reading and Review use on-device speech recognition to follow your recitation. Audio from your microphone is processed on your device. The current version never uploads it to us. Earlier versions upload it only if you share recordings (below).

Sharing recitation recordings (earlier versions, optional)

We are building our own recitation model so Qaree can follow your recitation word by word. The current version of Qaree no longer records or uploads any audio. Earlier versions tell you about this once, the first time they listen to you (Recite mode, reading pages or review); after that, recordings are shared until you turn sharing off in Settings or update the app. While sharing is on:

short clips of your recitation while Qaree listens, in Recite mode, reading pages or review (usually a few seconds each) are uploaded, together with the ayah you were reciting, what the on-device model heard, how the app judged it, and the app version and platform;
clips are stored under a random contributor identifier created on your device. It is separate from the analytics identifier and is not linked to your name, email, account, or IP address;
clips are used only to train and test Qaree’s recitation recognition. They are never sold, shared with third parties for their own use, or used for advertising;
clips are kept in a private Google Cloud Storage bucket in the EU and deleted automatically after two years;
in those versions you can stop sharing at any time in Settings. Choosing “Delete my recordings” there removes every clip stored under your contributor identifier. A model already trained on them is not retrained, but your clips are not used again.

When you update to the current version, clips still waiting on your device are deleted without being sent. Clips you shared before stay stored and used as described above.

If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian whether to keep sharing on.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand how the app is used and improve it, we collect limited, anonymous product analytics:

a random, app-generated identifier that is not linked to your identity;
in-app events such as which screens and features are used;
app version, platform, operating-system version, and device language;
on Android, where the app was installed from, as Google Play reports it (for example our website or a campaign link).

This data does not identify you personally and is used only to improve Qaree.

Subscriptions and payments

Qaree Premium subscriptions are purchased and processed by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment card details. The store’s handling of your purchase is governed by its own privacy policy.

The app attaches its random analytics identifier to a purchase. Apple and Google then tell us when that subscription renews, expires, is refunded or is in a grace period, and we count these changes with the anonymous analytics above. They never include your name, Apple ID, Google account or payment details.

Content delivery

Ayah audio and the on-device speech model are downloaded from third-party hosting providers when you use those features. These requests are standard file downloads and are not used to profile you.

Data sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not share personal information with third parties, because we do not collect personal information. Recordings you choose to share stay with Qaree and the cloud provider that stores them for us.

Children

Qaree is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
